About DMUS Live meetings

We usually meet in-person on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 7:50pm, at Rieman Music, Des Moines-Urbandale, in their recital room. The location is 6501 Douglas Avenue, Urbandale, IA 50322. Music stands are provided by the store.

You have the option to download and print the songbook or to bring a digital device to display the songbook. If you are unable to get a copy of the songbook for the meeting, please don’t let this keep you away! We can share materials. Sharing can be fun and often helps us learn from each other.

We provide three versions of our songbook for each meeting, standard tuning, baritone tuning, and guitar; the books include chord charts with chord diagrams. Almost every chord chart has a YouTube link to a Video recording of the song. Use the link to refresh your memory, learn a new tune, and/or practice along with a video recording.

Remember you can just visit the group without playing. We enjoy having visitors.

If you would like to join DMUS Live or just have questions, please email Melanie Hall at melaniehall67@gmail.com. (Email Frank de Lathouder at frank@delathouder.com for DMUS International.)

The Emotional Value of Chords - a Jim D'Ville workshop

This workshop will las about 2 hours and is appropriate for all levels of strummers.

There is a chord associated with each of the seven notes of a major scale. When played in context, each chord evokes a certain emotional response from the listener. Learning these chordal relationships will open your ears to the chord progressions of millions of songs. This is the first step to playing by ear. The lesson is a fun, interactive approach to learning how all songs work. Knowledge of finger positions for C, Dm, Em, F, G, Am will be helpful.

The instructions will be followed by play-along practicing what you’ve learned in the workshop.

“This understanding of the progressions just opened up a whole new way of listening to music.”
